On the Border: Supersize!
The Orlando International Airport (MCO) is very large and boasts many food court vendors but we had a few hours before our flight so we stopped by On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina. It was lunch time so the restaurant was full with businessmen and families.
After the large appetizer we were already full and the main course portion size is even bigger.
We ordered a Fajita Grill with steak and chicken. It was served with tortillas, Mexican rice, beans, sour cream, pico de galo and guacamole.
The chicken was way over cooked and so was the steak. The vegetables were good though because they soaked up all the meat sauce and juice.
Plentiful sides that come with the Fajita.
After we ordered, our server gave us a bowl of tortilla chips with salsa which tasted really good because the chips seemed freshly made. The chips filled me up about 1/3 so I was surprised at the portion size when our food arrived.
Firstly, the appetizer itself could be an entire meal for two. This is a Border Sampler which includes chicken quesadillas, steak nachos, and chicken flautas. Sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and original queso on the side. A sampler is meant to be shared so a larger portion is expected but I didn't expect it to be THIS large!

Chicken quesadillas: I have no idea if this is authentic Mexican cuisine (probably not) but this tasted so good! The grilled flour tortilla was crunchy, warm, and filled with butter aroma. Inside were chicken pieces, melted cheese, peppers and sauteed onions. Sometimes quesadillas can get soggy toward the end of eating it but these ones remained crunchy (or maybe I just ate them too fast!)
Steak nachos: This has got to be my favourite nachos that I've tried. The same salty tortilla chips from before were baked with cheese and cubed fajita steak pieces. Every bite had cheese, chips and steak. Add sour cream or guacamole to make it even better!
Chicken flautas: Corn tortillas filled with chicken and melted cheese. The outside was crunchy and the chicken was flavourful with curry-like spices.
If you ever go to Borders and can't decide which of their many appetizers to try, I highly recommend the sampler! By the way, everything came hot which makes it more delicious.

Overall, we were happy and full for our flight after this large comfort food meal. I have to remember to order less at American restaurants because their portion sizes are generous.
